Flu

School has not started yet and kids are getting the flu already. How bad is it going to be when school starts and the real flu season gets here, I am not looking forward to the flu season this year, this might be the first time in a long time that I get myself one of the flu shots. My wife gets them most years and we seem to get sick about the same but I can not take a chance on getting the flu this year, I have no one to cover for me at work and it would be bad if I missed any work at all this year.

Ever year on the Fourth of July there is one event that is above and beyond all of the others held on this date, the Nathans Hot Dog eating contest is one that catches my attention every year and this year will be no different. I watch it on ESPN every year and I am amazed at the amount of hot dogs consumed every year. In no way do I consider myself a competitive eater but I might be willing to give the hot dog eating contest a try someday. Well on seconf thought if I eat more than two hot dogs I get gas so I better pass.

I know it is the summer season and I know it is going to be hot and humid here in the south but this last week has been horrific. It has been very hot with a terrible humidity and I am not doing very well in this stew pot we have going on here in Nashville. The A/C in my truck just stopped working and every day I am a wet mess when I get home from work. I need to get it fixed and soon or I might just melt in the heat before fall gets here. I do not worry to much about the cold of winter, we have very mild winters but the summer season here is hat and humid two things I have had enough of this year.

The wonderful state of Tennessee has decided to close one of the busiest freeways in Nashville over the weekend. This has made if very hard for me to do my job. In our delivery business we use I-40 a lot and it is the way we get to several of our biggest accounts. If I can not make it my delivery sites in the time we have set I could lose their business. It is foolish to close a busy Interstate road to make repairs to a bridge that could be done at night. Just another way to harm the small business man here in Nashville.

Streets of Nashville

This week the streets of Nashville have been filled with tourists and with some streets closed it has been very hard to get around and get any work done. Not every business in Nashville caters to the tourist and they simply get in the way of people trying to make a living. I had several times I was dispatched to Broadway and could not get my work done in a timely manner because of all the tourists in the way. I for one will be glad when the CMA junk is done and the tourists go home.

Tragedy

It is a sad day when a jet filled with vacationers just disappears and no sign is found of the plane. Today they started to find some of the bodies from the downed jet and I wonder if they will all ever be found. It would be a very sad day to think one of your friends or relatives was missing with little or no hope of finding their body to put it to rest with the rest of your family, I do not think I would handle something like that very well. God Bless the families of the folks on the doomed plane and I hope your family is found and put to rest soon.

Summer here we come

Summer is on a fast track to be here very soon and I for one can not wait. The summer season is when we have the most fun and do the most interesting things. This summer we have plans to take our grandson to the beach as soon as he finishes his swimming lessons that he is taking at the YMCA. The YMCA has a great program to teach city kids how to swim, in the country where I grew up you had no option you got thrown in and it was sink or swim, I am sure glad I did not sink.

Race weekend

Memorial Day weekend has always been a huge race weekend for me. I start off my day by watching the Garnd Prix race from Monaco and then right into the Indy 500, I have been watching the Indy 500 since I was a small boy. I still love the sound of the Indy cars when they come by it makes your body tingle. Then the Coke 600 from Charlotte. The bummer this year might be rain for the Coke 600 looks like it will be ran on Monday, guess I will have to add an extra day to race day this year.

End of another school year

This week will be the final week for the first grade in our family. David has survived his first grade year and I could not be more proud of him, almost no drama this year a much better year than the fight and drama filled kindergarten year he had. Changing schools has helped him a lot he is much better adjusted with his new school and I hope he can stay in that school for a while instead of jumping around like his mother is prone to do, it is in the child’s best interest and I will fight to see that he has the best chance possible in the education he receives.

F-5

We had an F-5 tornado go through our southern counties and I think that the loss of two lives was a tragedy, but it could of been much worse. Most of the homes that were hit had no one at home, it was about noon so everyone was in school or at work, if it had been at 5pm it would of been a terrible tragedy. We have the problem of not being able to see the coming storms because of the trees and hills. So it is critical to have a good weather radio to keep track of the storms.

Race to the end

As I was watching the horse race the other night it occurred to me that a lot of the racehorses in America are put down due to injuries and that really made me sad to think of that. Take Barbaro the horse was watched by millions of Americans as he broke down and they tried to save him a few years ago, what a heroic battle that brave horse put on in his battle for his life. I am a horse lover and it is a shame that the big hearted beasts can lose their live racing for our pleasure.

Today is the end of our delivery contract with the Tennessean, and I am very happy about it. They have been screwing us for so long that it feels like a divorce not a contract ending. They have cut our draw, cut what we were to be paid and it is all take it or leave it, sounds a bit like a void deal to me if there is no give or take all they want is shoved down our throats. As soon as we get all of our money thet is due us We plan to file a lawsuit and drag them through the mud.

Fishing

One of the advantages to living right next to a huge lake is that when I decided to go fishing I can literally walk to the lake if I had to. Plus we have a pond within a hundred yards from the house where I can go if I do not want the crowd at the lake. My grandson has caught the fishing bug and I bought him his own rod and reel. He now asks to go fishing almost every time he is at our house which is almost every weekend, a fishing buddy is not a bad thing at all.

Hockey

The season is over for the Nashville Predators and the long off season starts for players and us fans too. No football no hockey I only have baseball to sate my sports mind until the football draft in a week, I can not wait for the off season news for the football teams, the news never stops for sports teams and their fans. I only wish we had a big league baseball team here in Nashville, we do have a AAA team but I have only been to one game there. We will have to make an effort to attend some Sounds games this year too.

That day

That day is looming on me. April 15th has never been one of my favorite days anyway and now with all the extra pressure of getting my taxes done on time is driving me to drink. I will lock myself in the office with a coffee pot and all of our receipts and I will not come out until I am done with the taxes. Add in the fact that I do not even like coffee and you can see what a mess I am in this year last year I had to file an extension I do not want to do that this year, so off to the office I go.
