This week will be the final week for the first grade in our family. David has survived his first grade year and I could not be more proud of him, almost no drama this year a much better year than the fight and drama filled kindergarten year he had. Changing schools has helped him a lot he is much better adjusted with his new school and I hope he can stay in that school for a while instead of jumping around like his mother is prone to do, it is in the child’s best interest and I will fight to see that he has the best chance possible in the education he receives.

As winter draws to a close the one thing that I look forward to the most is the start of the baseball season. Well that and going fishing both of these things keep me busy in the spring and summer and into the fall of the year. I love baseball it was the game I played the most in my youth, football which I was much better at did not start for me until the 9th grade, the small school I went to in Gate Oklahoma did not have enough boys for a football team we played basketball and baseball in the summer we also had a small track team, had to be small only had 3 boys in my 8th grade class. I can not wait for the crack of the bat.

We used to call this time of year when it was hot like it is now, Indian Summer. I remember going to school and it was so hot and humid the schools back in the dark ages did not have air conditioning. We always started school the first week of September, now they start at the first or second week in August. Seems pretty barbaric to me to cut summer short by 3-4 weeks. Give the kids a break and let them have fun during the summer and save school for the fall and winter when no fun can be had outside anyway.

My middle brother Jim has decided that he wants to go to school (at his age) to learn how to operate heavy equipment. Being a heavy equipment operator has a few perks, one that here in Nashville they never stop new construction so it will be very easy to find a good job. Associated Training Services has a great web site on the different classes they offer, and I can see why my brother is so excited about this school, they have a huge selection of courses and it is set up to get you trained and working as soon as possible.
