One of the advantages to living right next to a huge lake is that when I decided to go fishing I can literally walk to the lake if I had to. Plus we have a pond within a hundred yards from the house where I can go if I do not want the crowd at the lake. My grandson has caught the fishing bug and I bought him his own rod and reel. He now asks to go fishing almost every time he is at our house which is almost every weekend, a fishing buddy is not a bad thing at all.

As winter draws to a close the one thing that I look forward to the most is the start of the baseball season. Well that and going fishing both of these things keep me busy in the spring and summer and into the fall of the year. I love baseball it was the game I played the most in my youth, football which I was much better at did not start for me until the 9th grade, the small school I went to in Gate Oklahoma did not have enough boys for a football team we played basketball and baseball in the summer we also had a small track team, had to be small only had 3 boys in my 8th grade class. I can not wait for the crack of the bat.

The first game of the NFL season is in the books for the Tennessee Titans and what a show the defense put on holding the vaunted Jacksonville Jaguars to 33 yards rushing a great effort by the entire defense. The team had seven sacks and two interceptions. If the offense had stepped up to the same degree as the defense it would of been an easy victory. Vince Young has shown over and over that he is not a NFL caliber quarterback and I do not know if he will ever grasp the offense, it looks to be a very frustrating year unless the quarterback gets his head back in the game and plays like he should.

The Williamson County fair was this last week and it was amazing. The shows and the farming exhibits amazed with their beauty and at the same time your every sense was assaulted. The sights, sounds and the smells of a county fair are some of the greatest things you can see, hear or smell in your lifetime.  I really miss the county fairs of western Oklahoma when I was a child, they shut down the schools and bussed the kids the thirty-three miles to the county seat and we had the day to explore the fair, ride all the rides we wanted and to basically have as much fun in one day as a country kid can. I miss the old days more than you can imagine.

Every year in August I get so many weeds in my lawn it almost is a grass free zone. This year I have taken the battle to the weeds, I have sprayed the broad leaf weeds I have pulled some I have spread fertilizer with weed killer in it. This year I will have a weed free lawn if it kills me. The weeds have been fought back so far and the grass is still holding its own. So if nothing silly happens between now and winter I will have a great start on a weed free lawn next spring and all the hard work will be well worth it. I hate weeds and I hope they have spread the word to their evil weed family that my yard is off limits for weeds.
