Ever year on the Fourth of July there is one event that is above and beyond all of the others held on this date, the Nathans Hot Dog eating contest is one that catches my attention every year and this year will be no different. I watch it on ESPN every year and I am amazed at the amount of hot dogs consumed every year. In no way do I consider myself a competitive eater but I might be willing to give the hot dog eating contest a try someday. Well on seconf thought if I eat more than two hot dogs I get gas so I better pass.

Every day I try to burn a different candle in my office just to keep it smelling nice in here. I have about 10 different kinds of candles and today the one burning is spiced apples, which is a very nice smell and makes me think of apple pies that my Grandmother used to bake. The odor of the baking pies could be smelled for blocks around the house, and that is a very pleasant smell that I miss. Now we seem to get our pies already made and frozen, they either need to be defrosted or just warmed up in the oven, you do not get the same aroma as a pie baking in a hot oven for an hour. I really miss that very nice smell and I really miss my Grandmother.

Our family has had a small restaurant for many years, since my grandfather opened the doors in 1945. My sister has been running the business and wants to refurbish the interior with new Restaurant furniture. I have taken to eating better for my health and to try and live longer to be a pest to my children and grandchildren. Living longer has not been an issue on one side of my family with grandparents who lived into their 90’s on both sides of my family tree. I do not smoke I get a lot of exercise at work and walking my dogs I just need to start eating a little better and live a lot longer.

Tomato worms are destroying my crop of tomatoes they are disgusting little critters too. The only way I know to get rid of them is to pick them off the plants and crush them. ~N~ is so disgusted by them she screams and makes me come pull them off the tomato plants.

See the little critter hanging on a vine in front of the big green tomato? ~N~ can spot them from 6 feet away.

I remember as a child my grandmother pulling them off the plants with her fingers and stomping on them. I am not so tough I have to have a tissue to grab a hold of them, guess we are not as tough as the older folks in our lives.
