As I was watching the horse race the other night it occurred to me that a lot of the racehorses in America are put down due to injuries and that really made me sad to think of that. Take Barbaro the horse was watched by millions of Americans as he broke down and they tried to save him a few years ago, what a heroic battle that brave horse put on in his battle for his life. I am a horse lover and it is a shame that the big hearted beasts can lose their live racing for our pleasure.

Since I live in the midst of a lot of celebrities here in Nashville I always carry a sharpie with me to get autographs for my collection. I have talked to Peter Frampton in the line at the grocery store, had lunch with Tony Curtis in Las Vegas. Walked with John Goodman at a convention and we always see some of the Titans and Predators here at different events. At one event near us in the crowd was Steve Earl and Peter Frampton. This is one of the reasons that I really love Nashville. I only root for two pro football teams and I cheer for the same teams every year no matter if they have a good record or a losing season. The first is my hometown team the Tennessee Titans, I have been a huge fan of this team since they were located in Houston and the Love Ya Blue days. With a 7-0 record they are the best team in football this year, which they proved Monday night with the beating they put on the Colts. I will admit that my favorite player as a child was Johnny Unitas who was a man among boys in the 60’s. My other favorite team is an enigma that is a tough team to cheer for at least in public. The Arizona Cardinals are very hard to follow here in Nashville, they are never on TV, I have got to watch one of their games this year, but as a youth they were my team and I have remained loyal to this day, where I grew up in wester Oklahoma you either loved or hated the Dallas Cowboys and I drifted to the dark side and hated them so my next choice of a team was the Cards who were on TV almost every week, and I have remained loyal all these years. Years ago I was at a party at a friend’s house and began a conversation with one of the guys hanging around the beer keg. He seemed a likable guy and we talked mostly about motorcycles and road trips. Turns out the guy was Bob Seger and although I knew the name at the time I can’t believe I didn’t know him by sight. He looked like a regular guy and didn’t act stuck up at all. I’ve been a huge fan of his ever since. I especially like some of his older songs, like “Beautiful Loser” and “Fire Lake. “ The major league baseball all start game went 15 innings last night and what a finish they had. I caught the last 5 innings and was I impressed with the talent on display. JD Drew was the star of the game driving in the winning run, he is not a favorite of mine leaving my team on a bad note but he did a great job last night and congrats to him on his play. Now we can get on with the regular season and see who is going to win the world series this year. |
