When you have all the Christmas presents under the tree and you are so excited about opening the gifts, do you really wait until Christmas morning to open the presents? Or do you peek?
My in-laws have a big party at their house on Christmas Eve and everyone at the party opens their gifts on Christmas Eve. Then the next day they go to the homes of the other sets of parents or stay at their own homes and open gifts for a second round.
I also have a friend who has the “tradition” of letting each kid pick one gift on Christmas Eve, before Santa arrives, and open one before they go to bed. I don’t like her so-called tradition. It stinks of self indulgence to me. Also, she lets the kids wake up whenever and go down and tear open the presents, even if she is still sleeping. I can’t believe that she thinks this is OK.
In my opinion, the family should wait until Santa has come, get up at a reasonable hour on Christmas morning and eat breakfast, then gather around the tree and take turns opening the gifts. Each gift should be shown off, displayed and appreciated in turn.
